J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: Suffolk Feamles & Multi-Breed Females

Thursday 16th November

The annual Suffolk In-Lamb Sheep sale, in conjunction with the North West Suffolk Breeders Club, saw a bumper entry of 66 Suffolk Females catalogued, plus a large entry of Multi-Breed individual females.

The pre-sale show was expertly judged by Andrew Hewson of Burgh, Carlisle who had a strong entry of Suffolks forward to cast his eye over. The Suffolk Gimmer lamb class saw a fantastic entry of 10 lambs forward for the show this year. The championship rosette was awarded to lot 70 from Mark Evans of Jubilee flock, this stylish modern Gimmer Lamb was much admired, sired by Benrafton Barcelona, sold to 420gns. The reverse champion rosette was awarded to an aged ewe, lot 51 from GI Richmond, Oakfield Farm, Barnacre, this powerful ewe which is scanned with twins to the 2000gns Rookery Reebok and she herself was sired by Glenlisla The Ultimate.

A strong a ringside throughout the sale saw all animals well bid for with the trade topping at 700gns for lot 75, a Suffolk Gimmer Lamb from J Pryce, Prenafel, Meifed which was sired by Lakeview Rambo. The largest entry of Gimmer lambs to date at this sale sold to a market average of £278.

The highlight of the evening was the dispersal from Tom Crosdale, Clapham which attracted plenty of attention with a Deveronside bred ewe topping his trade at 320gns.

The Multi-breed section had a disappointing number forward than what was catalogue, and our apologies must go to those who travelled to the sale to be disappointed by those who did not turn up. There was a strong trade for Charollais throughout the evening, with Charollais topping at 380gns from JD & V Towers, Camp House, Farleton with Charollais carrying Beltex Lambs topping at 320gns. The annual flock production on behalf of J Stott Jnr, Crosscrake always creates plenty of interest with his sheep eagerly bid for topping at 320gns, twice.

There was a strong sale clearance with vendors leaving pleased. Thanks must go to North West Suffolk Breeders Club, Norjac Mutsubish Northern Boiler Grants for sponsoring tonight’s sale.
