Breeding Sheep

North West Auctions held its fortnightly sale of In-lamb breeding sheep selling to a strong trade for the sheep on offer. One-crop Swaledales in-lamb to the Leicester sold to £80 with 3 and 4 crop ewes to £75 from A & M Skidmore, Tebay. The flock dispersal on behalf of MD Phillips, Bootle saw aged Continental ewes sell to £92 and Continental shearlings to £90.

Store Hoggs

The fortnightly sale of Store Hoggs had a strong entry forward for the time of year. As to be expected, a wide variety and quality of hoggs were on offer. The trade was not quite as blistering as seen at the previous sales. Leading the way was the consignment from J Dickinson, Milnthorpe who sold Texels to £93 and £92.50, Suffolks from the same home sold to £89.50. Other Texels sold to £91 from OR Hodgson, Old Hutton. Horned hoggs from RL & J Crowe peaking at £90 and £87. Plenty of pens of strong Continental hoggs sold in the mid to late eighties. Strong well-fleshed Mule hoggs regularly sold in the early eighties. Very small lean and small tup hoggs sold to an easier trade then seen at previous sales.
