Seasonal entry of store cattle sold to a strong trade with bullocks selling to £1390 for a British Blue x from M Bateman & Son, Sedbergh who sold others at £1320 with Limousin x selling to £1330 from TW Nelson & Son, Stainton and Hereford x selling to £1270 from TW Wilson, Flookburgh. Other stronger end steers regularly £1150-£1250, including Fleckvieh from RW & SA Nicholson at £1170. Younger steers sold to £985 for 10 month old British Blue x, with Limousin x to £965, Hereford x to £905 and Simmental to £885. Heifers sold to £1390 for a Limousin x from JM Metcalfe Jnr, Underbarrow with Limousin x selling to £1270 and £1240 from NP & CE Buckely, Staveley and Fleckvieh to £1150 from RW & SA Nicholson, Lupton and British Blue x from £1130 from TW Nelson & Son, Stainton. Yearling heifers sold to £985 from British Blue from TW Nelson & Son, Stainton. With others generally £880-£920. Bulls sold to £1285 for a pair of Limousin x from JA Airey, New Hutton with Shorthorn selling to £1030 from M Kitching & S Smith, Kendal.

CULL COWS

Cull cows saw an overall market average of 145p/kg. Beef cows sold to a top price of 184.5p/kg for a British Blue x from I & AJ Armer, Burneside with other beef cows selling to 169.5p/kg from JJ & J Woof & Sons, Dent, CI Briggs, Ambleside and SJ & NS Wood, Windermere, and GM Redmayne, Ings. Other beef cows generally 150p/kg-160p/kg, depending on quality and type. Top grossing cow being an Aberdeen Angus from Millfield Stud, Settle totalling £1464. Dairy cows sold to a top of 169.5p/kg for Montbeliarde from JJ & M Park & Son, Helsington with Holstein Friesian selling to 161.5p/kg from WH Kitching & Son, Sedgwick. With other parlour type cows generally 135p/kg-145p/kg. Top grossing dairy cow achieved £1250 from JJ & MA Park & Son, Helsington. Steers to 239.5p/kg and £1470 for a British Blue x from JW Robinson & Son, Farleton with Belted Galloway selling to 209.5p/kg and £1042 from KD & L Armer, Kirkby Stephen.

117 rearing and weaning calves saw British Blue x sell to £490 from A Pickthall, New Hutton with other strong beef bulls regularly £340-£400, with native sired selling to £310 for Aberdeen Angus x from JH Towers & Son, Tunstall. Medium beef bulls regularly £260-£310. With dairy bulls selling to a top of £210 for Montbeliarde from JS & IM Wilson, Milliom who sold others at £205. Holstein Friesian sold to £150 from AK & BM Robinson & Son, Arkholme. Heifer calves sold to a top price of £340 for a British Blue x from RH & RA Fawcett, Burton with other stronger heifer calves £280-£310 to include Limousin x from JH Towers & Son, Tunstall at £295. Younger beef heifers regularly selling £220-£260 with younger native sired calves selling to £190 for month old Aberdeen Angus x from Colby Farms Ltd, Appleby.
42 stirks, saw bull stirks sell to £840 for 6 month old Charolais x from DM Eames, Abbeystead with British Blue x selling to £710 and £705 from MJ & C Barker, Appleby who sold Aberdeen Angus x to £640. With recently weaned beef bulls regularly £420-£500. Steers sold to £715 for a Simmental x from JR Pye, Stalmine with Messrs Young, Lindale selling British Blue x to £650 and Aberdeen Angus x to £625. Heifer stirks sold to £670 for British Blue from MJ & C Barker, Appleby who sold others at £580. With other 4-6 month old beef heifers generally £460-£500.
