Prime Hoggs
Lancasters weekly sale of Prime Hoggs had a slightly reduced entry of 531 forward this week selling to an overall market average of 225p/kg with 39-50kg hoggs averaging 230p/kg. Topping the market was 52kg hoggs selling to £145 from W & J Livesey, Inskip with Texel hoggs from the same home selling to £135 twice, £134, £133 and £131. Charollais hoggs from the same good achieved £135. Bargh Contractors, Heaton with Oxcliffe sold heavy weight Texels to £143 and £142. Other notable Texel prices including £132 from A & L Huddleston, Wray with £129 achieved several times by J Bargh & Son, Heaton with Oxcliffe, JW & SE Drinkwater, Quernmore and A & L Huddleston. The consignment of Texels from L & A Duckett, Higher Bartle sold to £129, £128, £127 and £122. Charollais hoggs sold to a top of £130 from AT Alcock, Inskip with Suffolk hoggs from the same home selling to £127. Other Charollais achieved £129 from AG Butler, Hambleton. There was plenty more pens of Continental and Suffolk hoggs selling around the £120 mark.

Hill bred hoggs saw Cheviots peak at £117 from J Bargh & Son. Mule hoggs sold to a top of £113 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale closely followed by £112 from JS & S Atkinson, Scorton. Plenty more pens of Mule and Cheviot hogg sold between £105 and £110. Horned hoggs saw Scottish Blackfaces weighing 43kg sell to £96.50 and £96 from WM Pye, Ashton with Stodday. Swaledale hoggs sold to £95.50 weighing 45kg from JS & S Atkinson.

Cast Sheep
The cast sheep trade continues to go from strength to strength at Lancaster. It was cast tups that topped the market today with Suffolks selling to £160 from WN & D Smith & Sons, Cockerham, Texels to £159 from J Burr, Quernmore and Charollais to £152 from JA Lambert, Out Rawcliffe. Texels ewes peaked at £143 from GR & A Foy, Conder Green. The consignment of ewes from TB Carter, Preesall saw Suffolks sell to £141 and Texels to £133. Beltex ewes sold to £131 with Texels from AG Butler to £129 followed by £127 from CD & HL Mason, Caton Green. Charolais ewes peaked at £126 from JA Lamert, Out Rawcliffe. Mule ewes sold to £114, £111 and £106 from WN & D Smith & Sons with plenty of others selling in the early one hundreds. Horned ewes saw Swaledales sell to £72 from DM Eames, Abbeystead.
All cast ewes forward averaged £105.71 with all tups averaging £157.

Sheep with Lambs
The weekly sale of Sheep with Lambs at Foot had a bumper entry of 85 families or 231 lives. There was, once again, a strong trade for all the sheep forward leading the way this week was Continental ewes with Texel twin lambs selling to £265 and £260 from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe followed by Continental ewes with twin lambs selling to £245 from J & A Heap & Sons, Barnacre. Mule ewes with strong Texel twice lambs sold to £232, £230 and £225 from D & K Swarbrick. Mule ewes with good Texel single lambs at foot sold to £210 from D & K Swarbrick.
The trade remains buoyant with good numbers required each week.
