Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Prime Lambs, Cast Sheep and Fortnightly Sale of Store Lambs, 16th August 2021

PRIME LAMBS


The weekly sale of 550 prime lambs sold to a two-tiered trade, lambs full of meat and well fed selling to a massive premium with these types of lambs regularly selling to 235-240p/kg, leaner type lambs looking more suited to the store market. Lambs sold to an overall market averaged of 223p/kg.
The sale topped at £122 for heavy Texel lambs from J & MM Cliffe, Forton. Suffolks sold to £118 from R&D Kellet, Cockerham with many heavy continental lambs regularly selling to the £110-£115 mark. A wonderful run of Texel lambs from JR Waller, Killington sold to a top of £113 at 43kg. Once again Beltex lambs are keenly bid for at Lancaster selling to a top of 270p/kg from KA Purtill, Wigan. More Mules on the market today with once again lambs being full of meat keenly bid for, selling to £105 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale and others to £95.50 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale.

CAST SHEEP

150 ewes went through the ring at Lancaster this morning with once again all types selling to their full value with the best pure-bred ewes selling to a faster trade than seen in previous weeks. Texel ewes sold to £167 from GR & RA Surtees, Stodday Village with others from the same good home selling to £130. Strong Texels out of Mules were regularly selling well over the £100 mark from KA Purtill, Wigan. Mule ewes sold to a top of £119 from R I & O Wilson, Scotforth with others selling to £114 from A & FM Bolland & Son, Ellel. Strong Mule ewes were regularly selling well over the £100 mark. A smaller show of hill ewes forward with Swaledales selling to £66 from Janet Simpson, Caldervale.

STORE LAMBS

The opening sale of store lambs at Lancaster Auction saw 200 forward, selling to a full ring side of buyers eager to purchase all types. Store lambs peaked at £94 for Texel’s from A R Gornall, Crossthwaite. A ring full of Suffolks sold to £85 from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton. Continental bred lambs were regularly selling to the mid to late £70’s with an overall average of £76.
