J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Weekly Sale of Sheep with Lambs at Foot, Spring Lambs, Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep, Tuesday 4th June 2024.

CULL SHEEP

Those who presented sheep were truly rewarded with an overall market average of £141.45.
Best heavy and pure ewes regularly £200+. Topping at £280 for Texel from R Wilson and then £270 from A Fare. Heavy first cross ewes regularly £170-£195, mediums £150-£165, with the best of the smaller end £120-£140. Best heavy mules sold to £186 with others regularly £155-£170 with mediums £130-£145.
Pure hill ewes sold to £186 for Cheviots, £158 for Gritstones, Swaledale to £130, Herdwicks to £108. Medium hill ewes generally £80-£100 with leaner and smaller sorts £50-£70.
Cull Rams sold to £270 with other stronger end £200-£250, hill bred rams £120-£150.

SPRING LAMBS

470 spring lambs were forward, with all weights selling to a strong trade and an overall averaged of 396p/kg or £172 a head, with lambs ranging from 30kg to 62kg.
- Texel sold to £207 from EJ&P Burrow, Storth.
- Charollais sold to £207 from EJ&P Burrow, Storth.
- Suffolks sold to £200 from E Needham, Stainton.
- Beltex sold to £198 from W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe.
- Dorsets sold to £193 from M Waller, Killington.
- Hampshire sold to £190 from IL Dixon, Carnforth.

PRIME HOGGS

500 hoggs were forward, once again well meated and fed hoggs met plenty of demand, with leaner types a lot less on the week. Beltexs sold to £228 from A Fare, Preston with Texels to £226 from the same home. Suffolks sold to £200 from AJ Cardwell, Pilling. Mules sold to £194 from WJ Livesley, Inskip. SFB sold to £186 from Cardwell Farms, Stalmine, with Cheviots to £180 from GM&A Jackson, Little Eccleston.
All meted hoggs will be in keen demand for next week’s sale.

SHEEP WITH LAMBS AT FOOT

The dearest trade seen all season, with some outfits £30 to £50 up on the week. A ring full of aged Texdal ewes with Beltex cross lambs from CR Alderson & Son, Kirkby Stephen sold to £370. Beltex cross ewes suckling twin lambs from JM&NJ Stickland, Whinfell sold to £350, who sold Mule ewes with Texel twins to £305. Broken mouthed Herdwicks with single lambs sold to £138 from Kirkby & Longworth, Broughton in Furness.
