PIGS
Pigs do fly, as they reach 302p/kg and £290.
The sale of pigs saw trade surpass recent levels, with new faces both buying and selling here at Junction 36. The best end pigs were well rewarded with a cracking pair of 96kg gilts from J Stott Jnr, Kendal reaching £290 or 302p/kg. Derek Lord, Preesall topped at £275 and MP Tattersall made a worthwhile trip from Langholm as his trio returned £272. Prime boars reached £172 from TS Wilson, Cockermouth with another at £170 from Derek Lord.
Optimism in the prime trade ensured store pigs sold well, with these selling to £100 from Belmont Farm Produce, Crook.
The next sale of pigs will be on Tuesday 9th July.
PRIME LAMBS
Just over 1000 lambs were forward, as seen nationally export / leaner lambs were selling at a reduced trade, with heavier well meated lambs achieving maximum returns. Texels sold to £202 from WH Kitching & Sons, Hale, with Suffolks to £198 from RM&JL Whitton, Cartmel. A pen of fifteen Suffolks sold to £193 from S Wilman, Kirkby Lonsdale. Smart bred lambs sold either side of 400p/kg, with Beltexs to £189 from TMW&H Hodgson, Ulverston. Meated lambs throughout the sale wee keenly bid for, with these regularly 365p/kg to 370p/kg plus. Buyers were very cautious over leaner lambs today.
PRIME HOGGS
80 hoggs forward with these selling to plenty of interest. Texels sold to £180 from L Potter, Orton with Beltexs to £172 from T&E Burrow, Slyne. Dutch Spotted sold to £160 from AP Metcalfe, Crook and Mule sold to £148 from TMW&H Hodgson, Ulverston.

CAST SHEEP
A reduced number of ewes were forward today, as farmers take advantage of the fine weather to gather crops and clip sheep. A fast trade for all classes and types was seen, with an overall market average of £139.20. The best pure bred ewes sold to £242 for a Texel from RA Batty, Selside with others at £220 from RT&ME Sutton, Stainton. Suffolks sold to £206 from RA Batty, Selside. Other medium pure and three quarter bred ewes were £180 to £200. First cross ewes sold to £194 for Suffolk cross from RM&JL Whitton, Cartmel with Texel cross also achieving £194.Stronger end ewes were regularly £160 to £180, with mediums £145 to £158. Other heavy pure breds saw Hampshire’s sell to £186 and BFL’s to £174. Cheviot Mules sold to £158 from JT&A Armitstead, Selsdie with North Country Mules to £154 from HP Armitage, Preston Patrick. Other stronger end Mules were £140 to £150, and mediums were £125 to £135. Pure hill ewes sold to £138 for Cheviot from JE Swan, Cartmel, Rough Fells £134 from L Potter, Orton and Swaledales £104 from TA&J Dixon, Selside.
Medium Continental rams sold to £140 from C Preston, Whicham with hill rams to £106 for a Swaledale from GR Park & Son, Whinfell.
More ewes are required every week to fulfil buyer requirements.
