PRIME LAMBS
Well meated / fed lambs attracted plenty of interest from buyers, with under finished leaner lambs harder to place. The best of the lambs were well bid for from start to finish, topping at 422p/kg for a pen of Texels from C Ellison, Pilling. Beltexs sold to 418p/kg from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham. Other best lambs were regularly 400p/kg plus. Heavy Texel lambs sold to £185 from H Birkett & Son, Overton. Beltexs sold to £184 and £182 from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe. Pens of first cross Texels sold to £180 from P Metcalfe, Denny Deck. Heavy continental bred lambs were 165p/kg to 170p/kg. Export bred lambs were a little harder to place today, with these regularly selling at 348p/kg to 355p/kg.
CAST SHEEP
Less ewes were forward as suspected, with a sharper trade seen for all goods and an overall average of £130 per head. A pair of Texels sold to £182 from KA Purtill, Wigan with Suffolk to £173 from G Riley, Bolton le Sands. Mule ewes sold to £152 from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth with other pens to £146 from E Lund & Sons, Ingleton. Horned ewes sold to £132 for a Swiss Valais from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with Dalesbred to £102 from S&J France, Over Wyresdale.
