PRIME LAMBS
Lancaster had a reduced entry of prime lambs with 508 forward, selling to a market average of 229.01p/kg. The trade very much inline with other market averages on the day. Lancaster had a busy ring of buyers, eager to purchase lambs to a price. Lancaster continues to have a competitive ring for butcher type lambs with the consignment from JS Horner, Ingleton twice selling Beltex lambs to 283p/kg, also achieving 283p/kg were Beltex lambs from J&H Huddleston, Brookhouse. Plenty of best confirmation lambs sold in excess of 270p/kg. Heavy weight Suffolk lambs sold to £128 from G Beresford & Son, Hellifield with heavy weight Charollais from the same home selling to £123. Heavy weight Texel lambs from T&H Drinkall, Oakenclough sold to £125 with others from the same home selling to £117. Quality butcher lambs saw Beltexs sell to £120 from PD Pye, Over Wyresdale with other Beltex lambs to £116 from JS Horner, Ingleton and J&H Huddleston, Brookhouse. Pens of butcher quality lambs continue to sell in excess of the £110 mark. More Mules on the market today saw 42kg Mules sell to £92.50 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale. With 41kgs selling to £92 from RH & C Ayrton, Abbeystead.
CAST SHEEP
There was an entry of 145 cast sheep forward today, continuing to sell to a strong trade. Leading the way was a Texel x sheep selling to £133 from JA Lambert, Out Rawcliffe. This was followed by a run of Texel and Continental sheep from KA Purtill, Wigan selling to £128, £122, £120, £116 and £108. Texels tups peaked at £125 (twice) firstly from TM Townley, Over Wyersdale and secondly from JE&J Pye & Son, Quernmore. Mule ewes sold to a tup of £107 from DJ Casson & Son, Slyne with other Mule ewes to £102 from RW&FJ Rhodes & Son, Quernmore and £100 from KA Purtill, Wigan. Plenty of pens of Mule ewes easily selling into the nineties. Upland ewes saw Cheviots sell to £98 and £94 from A&J Smith, Ingleton. Swaledale ewes sold to £85 from DJ Casson & Son, Slyne with others to £80 from TA&RM Dawson, Quernmore. There were plenty of medium meat horned ewes sold around the £60 mark.
